Look for the Label

November 7 – December 12, 2015

Threewalls, Chicago, IL

Isaac Silver (Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers ADC 1 of Illinois) and Anthony Stepter (UIC United Faculty Local 6456) *

Look for the Label was a project developed specifically for the exhibition The Great Good Place. It showcased a portion of Isaac Silver’s collection of buttons from radical social movements around the globe in order to connect the arts-based organizing practices highlighted in the exhibition to grassroots organizing in general. Small groups that typically gather in informal settings to support each other (book clubs, critique groups, etc. …) have been invited to hold their meetings privately at Threewalls throughout the run of the exhibition. A new button will be designed, displayed, and distributed for each group that meets in the space.

*Neither Isaac nor Anthony are currently members of the unions that they were a part of at the time of the exhibition, but listing their union membership on the exhibition labels and texts was a gesture intended to diminish perceived distinctions between creative laborers and workers in fields with historically stronger ties to organized labor, so the affiliations have been maintained in the archival presentation of this work.
