Extinct Entities was a project that explored the various histories of Chicago-based art spaces and collectives that no longer exist. Rather than simply looking at the disembodied objects, documentation, and purportedly objective histories that remain, the organizers want to engage artists to research and perform their own expression of these histories. Two publications–one produced while developing the event and one produced following it–helped to exhibit the project’s inquiries, act as co-generated forms of documentation, and served as a reflection on the process.
